Sammy Sighs

Hey, it's me...Sam the man, Sammy, Sambo, Samuel L. Jackson....me...

Things have been pretty good for me. Especially over the past Easter week, when no one seemed to remember my "diet"...and I got lots of crumbs from the little kids that were here. Not to mention a whole (or nearly whole) slice of pizza.

So, I got a little spoiled. However, we still went on couple walks, and Mom got right back with her routine after Easter too.

When Brooklyn was here, he walked us (or we walked him):

Of course, this is what he prefers over walking:

Then, Mom got him a haircut. Geez, what is it with her...first she's always getting my handsome hair cut off, and now, she got Brooklyn's cut too....

I had fun with Brooklyn, but Shelby got to sleep with him every night. Shelby thought that was pretty cool. However, you may have seen the Sleeping Beauty Post...when Dad was gone to Las Vegas, Brooklyn got to sleep with us a couple nights....

Now, back to real life with boring old Mom and Dad.

Monday, Monday

Does anyone like Mondays? I DO NOT, but then, if we didn't have them, we'd all have to hate Tuesdays.

It was a fun week with Brooklyn here...it seemed that he had grown several inches just since Christmas. He always has to have his favorite foods...first of all...spaghetti...his most favorite thing EVER to eat. I think he ate about three boxes of Eggo Waffles while he was here. One night, I made him home fried chicken. He eats so much right now...must be why he is growing so fast. (I was a good girl and tried the little George Foreman grill for my chicken breast). He enjoyed that, along with others at the table. He is growing up so fast. He loves to come here, where he has the freedom to go outside and play, ride bikes, and all that jazz. He told me, while playing a "brain game" on his Nintendo DS that he could "feel his brain growing". He got to go to his Nino's (god father) house a couple times and had a blast. I hope he enjoyed his spring break! This weekend, his cousin, Chloe came and they had fun together...I'll add that post next!

Happy Easter!

I haven't blogged in a while...been busy.. our grandson spent the week, arriving a week ago Thursday, so was here about 10 days. Then, celebrated Easter with him and our granddaughter, which was wonderful. (Of course, yes, we included the adults.) So, I'll have lots of "fodder" to write about now...but, for today...Happy Easter!

Sammy Sighs

Hey, it's me again. Welp, Mom had made us appointments with Megan and Jada to get beautified...and it was time. She almost forgot, but they called and reminded her...darn.

Anyway, we went in and got the works....I bet I weigh less now with all that hair gone.

And, it has been so nice and warm, we got our hair short and cute.

Guess what, it snowed last night, and is a bit chilly out.

Go figure.

My Hometown Church

I have been wanting to write a post about my home town church, as i mentioned in a recent post. Whenever we get to our home town, I try to attend. It is the church I've known almost my whole life. It is the church I joined as a young teen. I even used to sing in the choir.

When I attend church there, I feel "at home". I so enjoy seeing so many of the familiar faces from my childhood. I miss the ones that are no longer there, and remember them with great fondness.

There is something about it that makes me feel welcome and embraced. I always feel loved, like I belong.

Don't get me wrong, I belong to a church where I live--have for about 30 some years now, and do love my church. It is beautiful, the people are good, and I feel like I belong. I tried to share some of the beauty of this church as well with you in photos I posted on this blog.

I remember many churches growing up. One of my favorite memories that repeats in my mind is of driving in a car with my grandparents to their little church. I remember sitting in the BIG back seat of their car with Grandma on the way to church. She carried a black purse that snapped shut. And there was always a package of gum in it...I specifically remember Beamans gum. Then, we'd get to their little EUB church and worship. And, sign the old favorite hymns. Later, they attended a church in their little town, instead of traveling to that one. I attended there with them at times as well, including attending bible school there a couple summers, if I remember right.

But, that was still not my "home town church". It is hard to explain. But, the church is not a building, it is a community. It is the memories within you and that community. It is the love that you share for God and each other. And, I cherish that community and I always will. I thank them so much for letting me continue to be a part of them every opportunity that I can take.

You can link to my home town church, but some of the links within their site are not working right now, as they recently updated there site...I am sure they will be working soon.

Last Saturday

Last Saturday my daughter was going out of town on a mission...to buy a different camera. She had listed hers to sell and wanted a more compact one. She invited me to ride along.

This was taken along the roadway: That was in Wyoming.

These are from Colorado...see the mountains. We always enjoy the mountains. Any mountains, anywhere.

First stop:

Tina had really researched the camera she wanted to get, and this was where to get it. NOT.

They didn't have what she wanted. Nor did any place we went to all day, and we went looking at a LOT of places.

We met my son and daughter in law for lunch....that was fun, and we were glad to see them.

We ate too much. It was good.

It was a fun day. We were gone all day, returning at night.

End result: Tina ordered a camera online.

Sammy Sighs (Interrupts Again)

Hey, this is Sammy. Apparently the weather doesnt' make a big difference now to Mom.

Tuesday night, about the time she should have been getting home from work, I looked outside and it was snowing, and blowing, and snowing. I thought, ok, no walk tonight. But, right when she walked in, it stopped, so off we went. You can see the sidewalk here was still wet. And, Shelby told me by the time she walked it was spitting snow again. Mom must be nuts.

Then, Thursday, Mom had the day off, so here we go again....can you see how windy it was? Whew, Sissy and I could have blown away! Maybe I'm glad I weigh that whole 14 pounds so I didn't fly away. Just maybe.

And what was that burned up building photo?

This place, when I knew it was lived in by a local family, but had been vacant for quite a while. It burned a while back, yet it has yet to be torn down....

In the past, it had been a rooming house/hotel/apartments. In a recent letter to the editor to the Guernsey Gazette, a local woman wrote about staying there years ago. I think it would be a fun venture to go back to this building's beginnings, and read all the history about it. I believe it was known as the Nicola Apartments at least at one time.

Churches...

You may wonder what's up with all those pictures of churches in my recent post. Well, let me explain..

My husbands uncle is selling this house in Hartville:Included in the sale of the property:

(Yep, a church...) So, anyone interested?

And, then in Guernsey, there was another church about a block from my folks' place that had been for sale, and recently sold...
We wonder if it will be a church in the future, or it will be used in another manner now.

And this is the Catholic Church in Guernsey (St. Anthony's), in which we were married (over 30 years ago now...)

And finally...my "home" church:
I will be writing a post about my little home church soon...

To explain these photos...

This is Teka, my "niece dog"...she and I have been friends for lots of years...she is a sweetheart...

She is starting to get stiff and move slower, but she sure still is a wonderful companion to my sis.

These are some beautiful nieces...

just love those smiles.

OH NO

Let me interrupt my journey down memory lane for a moment.

I had a tooth break last night..far back on the bottom. It is pointy, jagged and hurts. It also scrapes my tongue. This has also given me a headache.

Do I sound whiny?

I feel whiny.

I have an absolute fear of going to the dentist. I mean, it is truly unrealistic.

But, I did call them (dentist) and they will get me in today. I realize this will be a more than one visit event anyway...augh. But, I can't not go, so I have to be a big girl.

I WANT MY MOMMY!

The Trip "Home..."

So I regress , but first I had to mention the food we so enjoyed. (And apparently, let Sammy vent as well). Anyway, about the food...it's always so nice to not cook, isn't it? I pitched in and did a couple minor things, but there's just nothing like having our moms feed us! That's just the best ever!!

The following pictures were scenery on the way and reflect things we have always known, even though some of it has changed over the years...

Aren't the street signs quaint?

When I worked here, it was called the "Tastee Freez" (years ago)....oh, the memories....making those ice cream cones, sundaes and frozen cokes while we played "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" (Elton John) on our jukebox. Ah, those were the days...And, Hey...it's for sale!!!
